I love action movies-always have. I grew up watching Kung Fu movies with my dad and brother and as I got older fell in love any movie that had a fast car and things blowing up-ooh and fight scenes!
The actors that make those movies big often times have stunt doubles. The person who is actually taking the fall, throwing (or receiving) the punch and generally getting all the bumps and bruises.
I wish we could have stunt doubles in life sometimes.
I was thinking about “those”times in life; when you have a tough conversation coming up at work, a dinner you HAVE to go to or when you have to have “the talk” with someone you have been dating-how nice it would be to be able to pause scene, step out of the way and let your stunt double take over.
She doesn’t even have to look like me.
When you have to have dinner with the in-laws you call up your best friend and she steps in and plays “wifey” for the night so you get to sit home with a bowl of Hagaan Daas watching Season 2 of Supernatural on DVD with director’s commentary.
Or when you wake up at 10am and are supposed to be in work 9, you just send in the stunt double and she sits there nodding, assuring it won’t ever happen again while you head out to Starbucks for an iced caramel macchiato.
What if, we can send in the stunt double for all of the unpleasantness in our lives? If anytime something comes up we don’t want to deal with we simply send in the double to handle things.
*sigh* for some reason Adam Sandler’s movie “Click” is flashing through my mind. (If you haven’t seen it-you should it’s a cute movie with a message). Anyway it wasn’t long before he realized he was fast forwarding through all of his life. If we focus on labeling everything as a good experience, a bad experience and I “donnwanna” experience-then maybe we are missing out on the living.
Perhaps just for today I am going to try and be present. To enjoy the moments without expectation, without labeling them good or bad but rather just enjoying the fact that I get to have experiences. I suppose it is all about living life and living it to the fullest.
That and I can’t seem to get the whole stunt double thing off the ground otherwise I would totally be doing that one instead! 😉
