So a few years ago, in another blog manifestation (Myspace actually-anyone remember that? 🙂 I wrote a blog titled “Gimme Pink.” I have posted it hear so you can read back if you should so wish but the general story was how I was having a particularly rough day for no reason and while in a shot I saw a hair piece that when you put it in made it look like you had a pink streak in your hair and I decided to buy it.
On my birthday a few weeks ago I went ahead and decided to plop in the pink hair piece and rock out (well, pumpkin pick actually but very similar). Part of me stopped and thought, “what is it going to look like you walking around with a pink streak in your hair.” It was that thought alone-the worrying about what others were going to think-that made me put it in my hair. I wondered how many times in life I had stopped and not done something because I was too worried about how others would take to it.
It was such a small thing and it really made me feel empowered!
Today I once again felt the call to put some pink in my hair until I realized I was going to the pediatrician. After all, “what would they think?” It was that thought that made me stop and go, “now you HAVE to wear it!”
It would seem that when we are acting in accordance with what is truly us, an authentic reaction to a situation that is when we need to trust it. And I would say that if the only thing that makes us want to alter our behavior is the worry of how others will accept us-that is when it is doubly important to stand up and let the world see US!
Here’s to wearing some pink (or purple or a rainbow) in your hair today!
I love this! It is so important to do the things that make you feel good and happy and not let other people's opinions stop you. I'm still getting there. I LOVE bindis (Indian forehead/3rd eye jewelry) but I am so self conscious of wearing one in public.
You are inspiring!
I think it's a great idea to have fun in our serious and over reactive world. Love it!
Dominee thank you so much for your kind words! We all fall behind the main thing is to keep going-and be you! Thank you for reading!
Tess thank you so much for reading and your comments! I love your blog as well and find it very inspiring!
