Yesterday I had to go somewhere I didn’t want to.
I mean, really didn’t want to.
It reminded me of my corporate life, of meetings, reports, agents, “planning reports,” productivity…
Blah, Blah, Blah.
Normally I would have had an adult-sized temper tantrum about how unfair it is.
Ok, I had a small one.
Then, I just said, “well maybe something good will come from this,” and let it go.
Like, forgot about it until the day before.
And while I would not have been upset if it had been cancelled I wasn’t anxious about going.
I wasn’t mad, or feeling all pouty about it, I just went.
In my own shoes, determined to put myself, not some fabricated notion of what others expected, in that room.
And something interesting happened.
A woman I have not seen in years came in.
We hugged hello then began the day-that ended sooner than I anticipated.
Then we chatted afterwards and she told me about what she has been up to.
She told me how she left her corporate job and decided to start her own business.
The light in her eyes was contagious as she talked all about doing what you are passionate about, living off the beaten path trying something NEW!
She said, “you were always like that, taken the path less trodden.”
I smiled, knowing she was right.
I felt so warm in that moment. Enveloped by this woman and her dream.
To be recognized by someone who didn’t know me all that well yet, in some ways knew me better than my closest friends.
She told me to find my passion and DO IT!
I laughed and said, “I am.”
I didn’t want to go the meeting yet I held onto a belief there was a reason I had to go-and that maybe I could find something good out it.
There were 2 other little “hi’s from the universe” in the course of our meeting that I couldn’t help but smile at, all culminating in a conversation with an old friend sharing her dreams.
Just because the world tells you that one way works doesn’t mean it works for you.
Just because the news reminds us of how bad it is “out there” doesn’t mean that is your experience.
Just because you haven’t done something-doesn’t mean you can’t.
I see you.
I recognize your passion.
I feel your heart, your desire for MORE than the ordinary.
And I am right here with ya! Punting, figuring things out, making mistakes.
But loving the ride!
