Gosh, that is a 20 year long story! I have a lot of different training and certifications in both the creative and the spiritual realms.
The short version is that I was teaching and counseling at a spiritual centre, while also working at a job part time and doing art in every free second I could find.
Over time my workshops and client roster started to grow as I developed my own unique way of bringing together everything I’d learned about spirituality, emotional healing, bringing dreams to life and creativity. About a year and a half ago I decided to take the leap and make this my full time work and I haven’t looked back since.
2. I always ask about the transition. You talk about how in 2011 you transitioned from working doing the 9-5 thing to supporting yourself. Can you tell us about that? How you did it? How terrifying was it? Things you would do differently? Things you wouldn’t change?
My transition was quite slow. I was working at my job part time while doing my dream work part time for many years. I’d kind of settled into that and was really happy to stay in that place which felt like a beautiful balance between security and living my dreams.
The problem with that was that the more everything grew the less balanced it all actually was. And more importantly as I was encouraging my clients to keep dreaming and trusting it started to feel out of integrity with my own teachings to not be doing the same thing myself.
When I made the final decision I gave myself 6 months to transition from 3 days a week at my day job to none. Using the same meditation and journaling techniques that I teach helped me get through the scary parts and create a smooth path into my new life.
3. I have worked from home for the last 8 years so I am always fascinated about people’s routines-do you have them? Are you a very strict and regimented person or do you more go with the feel of the day?
I am pretty balanced between structure and freedom. Each Monday I do what I call a Creative Genius Planning Session where I map out my week but if inspiration strikes I do re-arrange my plans to make room for it.
4. What would your advice be to someone struggling to making their passion their career?
It doesn’t have to be a struggle. You’re passionate about this thing because it’s your purpose. Your purpose is inherently powerful. You can learn to tap into that power to make everything about turning your passion into your career easier.
5. What kit would you recommend to someone who perhaps isn’t creative, but is trying to adjust to a new path-perhaps a career change or relationship change?
The Create A Map Kit. It helps you tap into your creativity, intuition and superpowers to make a map that leads you through tough terrain.
6. I am completely in love with and amazed by your map making kit! You refer to the “magic” that happens and it so does! Of course we need to do the work but your kit makes it so bright and amazing that all of a sudden I found myself going, “Oh wow I just did that!” What is it like bringing something like that into creation?
It was pure joy to bring that into creation! It was also a very long process. I started by giving it as a live workshop a few times. After about the third time I made a digital workbook that workshop participants could take home with them to make more maps. Later on I added some guided meditations to the workbook and turned it into a digital kit. About a year later I re-structured the kit to include a series of audios leading you through the process, as though you were in a live workshop with me.
I really love that this has continued to grow and evolve over the years.
