My poetry book, “The Real Princess Story” is completed.
She is HERE!!
The completion of any project, especially a creative one, can be exciting and daunting all at the same
time.
We invest so much in our projects, we get to know them, we edit them, we change them around and
then, one day we realize they are finished and ready to go out into the world.
And that’s where the daunting part comes in.
How do we get them out?
What will people think/say?
Maybe I should just go over it one more time?
And my personal fave.
Nope, not gonna do it.
As an artist I think it’s natural to second-guess yourself. When you are sharing something so connected to your soul and who you are, with the world, it’s terrifying. It’s also, what makes artists so amazing.
Through the stroke of a paint brush, the taps of a keyboard, the strum of a guitar, we create something out of nothing.
We make things that elicit a reaction from the world.
How powerful is that?
I remember when I first started sharing my writing with people and they would tell me what it meant to them how I would light up.
While the poem may mean one thing to me, and something quite different to the reader, it still touched them.
It spoke to them even if only long enough for them to say, “I don’t get it.”
It’s scary to put your work out there.
The words written in the security of a writing space, quiet thoughts that ran through the mind.
But what an amazing feeling to know that maybe someone will be touched by it.
Maybe even share it with a friend saying, “hey you have to read this.”
That is what art does.
