I decided to do something a little different than I normally do-which is always fun-and share my newsletter here on the blog as well. I thought this was a nice way to introduce my new readers to what they can expect when subscribing to my weekly newsletter. If you like it and would like to subscribe you can click here or the link below. Enjoy!
This week I have excitedly been able to manifest a change that I have written about numerous times.
I was not born a morning person. Save for about a year when I got up each morning around 6am and went for a walk with my friend. I loved those early mornings and it was something that got me up each day. It wasn’t the promise of the walk or the great company and conversation that got me up on those often cold mornings. Nope, it was the coffee I picked up at the coffee shop about 10 minutes into our walk.
I always knew it would be a good day when their special was pumpkin spice.
But somehow our routine ended without us really being aware of it, as is often the case and my brief stint as a “morning person,” ended as quickly as it came.
However I never gave up hope. Each evening I would go to sleep planning to once again wake at 6am and start my day.
So why was this week any different? Well, if you have been reading my blog posts I have talked about the Create Your Dream Map Magic Kit by Andrea Schroeder which I completed last Sunday. I attribute the change this week in part, to the work I accomplished with that kit. Was it a magic wand? Well, yes, in a way. I was able to set out an intention, be clear about it and put plans into place to make it happen. Sounds easy right?
You think it would be. What I believe the biggest shift for me was I realized why I wanted to get up early. The real, down to the core reason that 6am was so appealing to my mind (if not my body)? I wanted more time. I wanted time to get up and write watching the sun come up over my neighbor’s house. I wanted to have time to mop my floors and vacuum my rugs so that my home remained my creative haven. I wanted to do the yoga I so truly missed and that made me feel balanced, centered and healthy. Using Andrea’s course I was able to see all this, and most importantly figure out how it worked for me.
While I did want time to exercise, telling my sleepy self to get up so you could go workout was met with a snort and a “yea right.” However, when I decided instead of exercising first thing that I would write and do some creative journal-ling, suddenly I wanted to get up.
So what does all this have to do with enjoying the small moments? I have been awakened creatively and this awakening has put me on the path to meet other creatives. I am reading their stories, interviewing them, hearing about their guilty pleasures and realizing that each moment is an opportunity to soak up some beauty.
Michael Nobbs at Sustainable Creative sends out his daily podcasts which I look forward to each morning. He is an avid tea drinker and has inspired me to get back into tea drinking myself. I remember as a child my mother and I enjoying tea together in the evening and even to this day how having tea instead of our usual coffee brings about a connection and warm memories to surround us.
Further inspired by one of Michael’s podcasts, I decided to treat myself today to a tin of loose tea. I boiled water, steeped tea, poured milk into my china cup, added tea and enjoyed along with some chocolate covered cookies.
It was divine.
Such a simple thing and I felt grounded, centered, even a little spoiled. Like how in the evening my husband and I sit on our front porch enjoying a drink and talking before bed. That time together connects us and allows me to feel connected to the life we work so hard for.
This week I am contemplating a ceramic painting date where I believe I will make a tea pot.
What can you do this week, something small and simple to allow you to feel spoiled, blessed and happy?
Here is the small moments! Have a great week!

Michele, I love your honesty and ability to look carefully at the true cause of a desire or fear and then to deal with it practically. Not so easy. I too love the the beauty in each moment. Sorry that your early rising will be put to the test with the switch to DST. As an early riser myself, I am not looking forward to it. The dog will be happy though because she will be thinking that she's being fed an hour earlier! Enjoy. Andrea
Thank you so much Andrea! I am not excited about DST that is for sure but I am up for the challenge! My dog will finally be back to eating at 5pm. He is an old man though so he likes his dinner early 🙂
