If you are anything like me, you scour Pinterest looking for inspiration for your creative journals only to then realize all of your pages suck and you should just eat some dark chocolate.
If you are anything like me that is.
Over the weekend I started to put together a journal. It was one I had been working in, was fairly happy with, however I didn’t use the right medium and my pages were sticking together.
Ah well, live and learn.
One of my favorite non-creative, creative things to do is to set up my journal pages. I make them strong and ready for the magic (I hope) I will fill them with.
Today I sat down and wanted to create something, anything on my pages and I just felt….stuck.
I wanted to make something pretty, something that would inspire me and would give me joy.
So I decided to just sit down and cover the paper with pastels.
A trick I learned in the Painting Made Easy Program.
So I painted some pink, then some purple and some blue.
I scoured Pinterest while it dried and saw this pin about using washi tape on the edges of your journal so I decided to do that.
Then I decided to just layer the page a bit. Make it all chunky and textured.
(Yup learned that in Painting Made Easy Program too 🙂
So I took out some of my oil pastels and colored over the water colors.
Next, I layered on some really cool lotus tissue paper I found yesterday and just love!
Then I was inspired to write this post because I already loved my page.
It was chunky and colorful and me!
Once I started writing the next part came to me and I decided to write a quote inspired by this blog post which I found today and was completely moved and empowered by. The colors, the paper, the look just came through and I glued them down.
I am happy with the page and the best part is, it inspired me to do something else. It helped bring back to my creative home-writing-and share this with all of you. Of course my little dilettante mind started thinking about a “how-to” and to have all those pretty snapshots of each step but that is not my forte so I will leave that to those who excel so much at it.
And I will leave you with this.
When we focus so intently on creating something to be just so.
It rarely ever is.
Creativity is about expression not about results. Focus on expressing and let the pastels fall where they may.
Until next time…
